ECL Missions

The Episcopal Diocese of Liberia and Bromley School for Girls were pleased to host a mission group from Diocese of Virginia and North Carolina in late October, early November.

The primary focus of the mission was to provide the Bromley teachers with professional development, utilizing critical thinking skills and communication through visual art and oral and written language.  The group came fully prepared, with teaching materials, and supplies much in need by the school.

Rev. Fr. Edward Kekay Gbe met the group upon arrival, and accompanied them on many of the week’s activities.  Bromley Principal, Mrs. Maureen Hutchison, and the Dean, Mr. Gabriel Mowbah hosted the
missioners at Bromley.

The mission group was lead by Rev. Kate Bryant, and the mission coordinator was Ms. Kimberly Haeringer. The team included five individuals with a total of 142 years of accumulated professional experience in education (Diane Bell, Nancy Chapin, and Elaine Nunnally of St. James’—Leesburg, VA; and Laurraine Landolt and Paul Miller of St. Peter’s—Purcellville, VA); a world-class pediatrician, Dr. John Hunt, from Our Savior—Charlottesville, VA; a professional with 30 years of information technology experience, Judy Hall, also from St. Peter’s—Purcellville, VA; and a professional with 15 years of experience in community development, Donna Rewalt, from St. Philip’s—Durham, NC.

A considerable amount of follow-up activities are scheduled, as the mission teams settle back to their home parishes, and spread the word.

The Board, Staff and students of Bromley, and the Bishop and Diocese of Liberia offer heartfelt appreciation for all of the gifts of time, talent and treasure donated by this loving mission group.

The Episcopal Church of Liberia is grateful for the increasing interest being expressed by parishes and diocese from outside of Liberia.

This, in turn, is resulting for increased interest in the possibility of mission visits to the schools, churches and clinics spread throughout our country.

In response, The Right Reverend Jonathan B.B. Hart has announced the appointment of Reverend Edward Gbe to the newly created position of Diocesan Coordinator for Mission Activities in Liberia. Rev. Gbe brings a depth of experience and a welcoming ministry to assist all who wish to work with us. He may be contact at revfredgbe@yahoo.com, and welcomes inquiries."
